Of course, it's not just what you serve for Christmas dinner that counts - it's how you serve it! So how about these elegant seating and table ideas...

Table settings ideas

Take the stress out of Christmas by planning a beautifully organized dinning area.
To make it work, you need to go back to the basis: consider the room's size and allow for circulation and storage.
Use the biggest table that will fit comfortably in the room. Allow 30cm on each side to allow people to get in and out of their chairs.
Choose comfortable dining chairs. A bench for additional sitting is a good invaluable. Try to match up the furniture.
A side table will provide more serving area and can be used to be a focal point with festive decorations.
Choose adjustable lighting and additional wall or standard lamps to create a warm atmosphere.
Create a glowing table with decoration of low tea lights and flagrants flowers, good quality thick linen and sparkling silver and glass.

Table center

Make a feature of your table center by raising it up on a nice glass cake stand.

Decoration idea:
fill shot glasses with beads, add white tulips, star of Bethlehem or other delicate flowers, fill up with water and place in the middle of the table.

Place names

Just glue gold paper to luggage labels and attach to big sparkly bauble ateach place setting.

Decorate the chairs

Deck the chairs with baubles. Wrap colored thick ribbons around the top of each chair. Then attach a couple of baubles to the ribbon to complete the look.

Shining silver and glass

Dissolve a handful of washing soda in an aluminium pan. Soak the cutlery and remove when the tarnish disappears.
Get sparkling glasses by adding a lemon juice to the rinsing water.

Festive colors

  • Silver, cream and gold are perennial Christmas favourites and there's an abundance of available ornaments and decorative items. Team with green foliage for a beautiful version of this traditional style.
  • Red and white. Keep to crisp white and add accents of cranberry. Add some touches of black in the tablecloth will offset the red and white to perfection.
  • Green, silver and white. White combines with one accent color creates a bright, contemporary table. Green is a perfect choice. Use white china with sparkling silver beaded placemats and gleaming lime glassware for an elegant look. Simple touches of foliage and white flowers soften the overall effects.

    Flowers

Fill the room with pretty flowers.
Choose brightly colored blooms to introduce drama in the room or simple white flowers for a more subtle approach.
Flowers add color and life to the table but can sometimes get in the way. Try a low level arrangement that allows guest to talk to each other.
